This Weekend in Karachi: Plays and Displays
There’s no escaping the artistic soul of the City of Lights. This weekend in Karachi is a testament to that, with multiple exhibitions, plays, and workshops happening over the weekend. Whether you want to observe or immerse, let this convenient little list help you make up your mind.
This weekend, Koel Gallery will be hosting a group exhibition featuring the works of three prominent artists. The event will showcase art by Nazia Akram, Omar Kasmani and, Nabahat Lotia. The mediums of these three artists a widely different, from ceramics to photography and everything in between. This should be interesting.

Full Circle Gallery will be hosting a solo exhibition this weekend. The artist in focus is Mazhar Qureshi, known for working within the mediums of acrylics and oil on canvas. Qureshi’s art is primarily abstract, though he sometimes delves into still art forms. The exhibition will continue till the 10th of February so there’s barely any time left. Don’t miss it.

The play is performance art based on ‘Sur Samoondi’ written by the eminent Sindhi Sufi – Shah Bhittai. Employing the allegory of sailing and the challenges of gyres, cyclones, and high tide, Bhittai has sought to illustrate the arduous path of spiritual enlightenment. The performance will feature Fringe Karachi Repertory which is a collective of theatre graduates and practitioners.

Tere Ishq Nachaya
The event will be unique Sufi music and dance performances based on Bagh-o-Bahar: Qissa-ye Chahār Darvēsh (The Tale of the Four Dervishes), a collection of allegorical stories written by the 13th-century Persian poet, Amir Khusro. The performance has been choreographed by the famous Kathak dancer, Farrukh Darbar. Sounds like a magical night.
