Therefore, the latest insta-trend might come as a bit of a shocker; grab on to your nut butter, the latest fad to pop up on Instagram is dairy; Moon Milk.
If you haven’t heard of this trend yet just type #moonmilk into your Instagram search bar and you’ll come across endless images of aesthetically-pleasing pastel warm brews. Drinking a cup of hot milk before bedtime isn’t exactly an earth-shattering revelation, hello entire childhood, but adaptogens have given this an ayurvedic overhaul. Add-ins allow a rainbow of opportunities for this photogenic night-cap.
In Ayurveda warm milk is a common remedy for sleeplessness and ashwagandha is a commonly used Indian adaptogen that is proven to lower stress and sometimes helps with insomnia. Ashwagandha is also used to treat anxiety, fatigue, and nervous system disorders
If you’ve got a problematic sleeping pattern you’re not alone, in today’s day and age most people have a hard time shutting their brains off at night. Now, while there are several remedies for insomnia few are as pretty and instagramable as Moon Milk.
It’s a lot fancier than your average latte and has been touted as a miracle worker for helping you snooze soundly. It can be garnished with edible flowers, spices, herbs, or a drizzle of honey or ghee. All these add-ons mean that it can be a trend within a trend plus another trend; Trendception.

1 cup milk of your choosing
1 tablespoon maple syrup, or to taste
1 teaspoon butterfly pea flower powder
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 pinch freshly ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ashwagandha powder
In a small saucepan set over medium-low heat, whisk together milk with maple syrup, butterfly pea powder, and spices until powder is dissolved and milk is warm but not yet simmering.
Whir briefly using a handheld milk frother for a latte-like finish, or whisk vigorously to create a fine froth
Pour into a warm mug and enjoy. Optionally top with a sprinkle of ground up butterfly pea flowers and freeze-dried blueberries.
