D’OH: Churros, Donuts, Pancakes, and More

D’OH Karachi is incredibly famous for its innovative donut flavors, amazing poffertjes (Dutch mini pancakes) and Brazilian churros. They recently renovated and reopened in Phase 6 of DHA, in the Khayaban-e-Bukhari food street; a revisit was in order. The eatery consists of a variety of food stalls in close proximity to each other and brightly colored plastic tables and chairs set up for diners. For an open-air venue, the prices seem a bit steep but the taste more than makes up for it.  The dishes are served in disposable takeaway boxes making everything easy to munch on-the-go or to take home.

Poffertjes

My regular order here consists of their mini pancakes. The Dutch mini pancakes are ten very-small-baby pancakes, slathered with your topping of choice. I ordered three different varieties with peanut butter, melted butter, and Nutella. Each little pancake is a cushion of vanilla-wafting softness. The chunky peanut butter is house-made; it’s the perfect warm, gooey texture. The melted butter seeps into the very core of the bite-sized pancakes and each bite leaves you with a mouthful of malty sweetness. Nutella – the ultimate dessert topping – complements these perfectly, making for a decadent dessert.

Churros

I was feeling a little fancy so I also ordered a Brazilian churro filled with cream cheese and a Brazilian churro ice cream sandwich, topped with chocolate sauce. The churro was fried to a perfect golden brown and the granulated cinnamon-sugar amplified the light and crispy texture of the churro. The cream-cheese filling oozed out with each bite and was an explosion of flavor in my mouth. The Brazillian churro ice cream sandwich proved to be the star of the show.

A delicious home-made scoop of vanilla ice-cream sandwiches between churro disks, topped with molten chocolate- perfection. Eating it was a task, and things got really messy really quickly. But the effort was definitely worth it. Each drippy, saucy bite of this ice cream sandwich was a burst of creamy sweetness.

Well Worth It

D’OH is essentially the ultimate dessert experience for every true dessert lover. The menu is brief yet varied, the prices are slightly steep but the food is a mile ahead of the competition.
